Pressure conversion chart

Shop, HVAC, hydraulics, and process-plant pressures. Use the matrix for 1-unit factors, then the lookup table for common gauge values.

When to use: Spec sheets, compressor cut-in/cut-out, tire and vessel ratings, and lab work where psi, bar, and kPa appear on the same drawing.

  • Tables are absolute conversion factors. Gauge pressure still needs atmospheric context (add or subtract 1 atm ≈ 101.325 kPa) when a datasheet mixes gauge and absolute.
  • 1 atm (101.325 kPa) is not 1 bar (100 kPa). Mixing them is a common instrumentation error.
  • Torr is 101 325/760 Pa by definition. Conventional millimetre of mercury (mmHg) is extremely close but is a separate conventional value.

W, kW, hp, metric hp, BTU/h, RT

Power conversion chart

Motors, generators, HVAC, and engine ratings. Mechanical horsepower (550 ft·lbf/s) is the default hp column.

When to use: Nameplate conversions, generator sizing, refrigeration tons, and comparing US mechanical hp with metric PS.

When to use: Machining tolerances, architectural dimensions, pipe and fastener callouts, and survey-adjacent site work that still uses feet and miles.

  • 1 inch = 25.4 mm exactly. Fractional inches in the lookup table use that exact relationship.
  • This pack uses the international foot (0.3048 m), not the US survey foot (1200/3937 m). For new US work, NIST retired the survey foot in 2022–2023.
  • Nautical miles (1 852 m exactly, BIPM) are not included here; use the aviation distance tools for NM.

Which sources do these engineering conversion charts cite?

SI units follow the BIPM SI Brochure (9th edition). US conversion factors and the international inch, foot, yard, and mile follow NIST Special Publication 811. The standard atmosphere (101 325 Pa) is the NIST conventional value. Exact defined relationships are marked “exact”; derived values such as psi and mechanical horsepower are rounded only for display.
